Mick Foley recently shared insights about Drew McIntyre's release from WWE during an episode of Foley Is Pod. Foley was impressed by McIntyre's appearance on "The Scottish Warrior" in IC and recognized his talent and potential.
Without hesitation, Foley sent a video clip of McIntyre's performance to Triple H, ultimately benefiting both Drew and WWE. Even though Foley had never sent videos to Triple H before, he felt strongly that he was doing the right thing this time.
“Drew will admit that there are times to go out there [on the indies] and be that guy from WWE. But when it really counted, like with Insane Championship Wrestling — people need to know, just from the onset, I rarely text the powers that be, and in this case, I texted Hunter after Drew sent me something.
I wasn’t close friends with Drew by any means, but I liked him, and he sent me something”. - Foley said.
Mick Foley on McIntyre's message
McIntyre held a deep respect for Foley and wished for him to recognize his talent.
Given Foley's extensive experience, he was confident in the course of action. Foley emphasized to Triple H the importance of giving McIntyre another opportunity. Triple H followed through, and it turned out to be one of WWE's most significant and beneficial decisions.
“He said, ‘Hey, I know you’re busy, but I’m working on something different. I did something for her ICW in Glasgow. Can you take a look?’ The first thing I did, and he’d only been gone like a month, I texted Triple H and said, ‘I know you just released him, but you need to keep your eye on Drew McIntyre.
He’s like an entirely different person.’” By returning to WWE, McIntyre confirmed that they did not make a mistake when they gave him a new chance. Source: Pwmania
