In an interview with Sports Illustrated, Kurt Angle talked about the shoot wrestling match that happened 21 years ago (2002). His opponent was Brock Lesnar. Kurt Angle confirmed that he won, although Lesnar was optimistic that he would be the on to win in the end.
“We wrestled just once. It was during the day before a WWE show back in 2002. Dave [Shultz] taught me how to teach myself. The technique he instilled in me, that’s ultimately how I beat Brock. Brock said he’d beat my ass.
So when Brawler told me that, I said, ‘Let’s go.’”- he said, as quoted by pwmania.com! Angle showed honesty and admitted that it was not easy to defeat Lesnar. He had enormous problems, but in the end, he succeeded in his intention.
“Brock was picking Big Show up, double legging him, just wrecking him–and that’s when I thought, ‘I don’t know if I can beat this kid. But I figured, I may as well try. It was a tight match. I didn’t dominate.
But I won”.

Angle also emphasized the differences between a national champion and a gold medalist. He knew what he could expect in the match with Lesnar, and was fully prepared for such a challenge.
His experience and quality were crucial in that match. “There’s a big difference between a national champion and a gold medalist. I knew Brock was going to do his college wrestling with straight double legs. It was all about positioning.
That’s what Dave taught me, and that’s why I hardly ever got scored on. Brock didn’t score on me”. Angle is a man with an enormous amount of success in his career. A man who always believed in himself and his dreams. Kurt succeeded in everything he set his mind to and will be remembered as one of the greatest to ever pass through WWE.
