Stone Cold Steve Austin returned to wrestling in his home state of Texas. Following the success of that match, it has been revealed that WWE has once again attempted to bring the legend back to the ring, with Meltzer reporting: "There was an attempt to have a match between Brock Lesnar and Steve Austin as the two never faced each other.
Although at one point there was also talk of Steve Austin against Roman Reigns, it seems this possibility has never even remotely been taken into consideration. Austin has decided to decline to wrestle Lesnar at the event." But WWE didn't give up and in a new report from Fightful Select, with Inside The Ropes transcript, we learn that Austin was nominated for a match against Lesnar last summer or in the fall, but as far as apparently the money involved prevented the confrontation from happening.
As for a match with Reigns, Austin was offered a significantly higher amount, of money, but he simply didn't back it up. Ever since his return match against Kevin Owens at Wrestlemania 38, there have been rumors of Stone Steve Austin appearing again for a new edition of the Showcase of the Immortals.
Prior to last year, the WWE Hall of Famer had not contested a match since his 2003 loss to The Rock at WrestleMania 19. Also on his Instagram profile, Steve Austin clearly stated that his training regime has absolutely nothing to do with a possible other match in WWE: "People have speculated Hey Steve, what are you doing? What are you training for? do you train for an event? You can speculate what you want, I looked in the mirror and realized I was absolutely out of shape, so I called my dietician and trainer.
As for body weight, I'm probably around 232 pounds skinniest Stone Cold ever. Anyway that's the bottom line, I got tired, I looked in the mirror and I looked damn out of shape. I got tired of looking like a ball, so I'm taking action to do something about it." Despite this, ideas have continued to come up to involve the Texas Rattlesnake in professional wrestling's biggest event of the year, and that includes a supposed match with LA Knight.
Though no one close to Austin or WWE has yet confirmed the possibility that it could happen. Meanwhile, however, with all the uncertainties of the case, Stone Cold Steve Austin is continuing to train a lot.
