The reason for the cancellation is to limit the risk of infections from Covid-19 as much as possible. The canceled stages are: Lake Louise, Killington and Beaver Creek, for a total of ten races. However, no change for Cortina 2021: the World Cup will take place in February as announced in July by the FIS.
The announcement follows a few hours after the communication relating to the closed-door holding of the Soelden competitions on 17 and 18 October next. Overall, with the decision on the North American stages, 10 races leave the scene, 5 men and 5 women: the men's and women's fast races of Lake Louise, slalom and Killington women's giant, downhill, super-G and men's giant Beaver Creek.
Canceled races will be recovered by hooking them up to races already scheduled in European locations. The final decision on the calendars will be taken at the end of September, but, in the meantime, Fis has established the new calendars that provide: that an additional weekend with two male giants will be held in Val d'Isere (5 and 6 December), with the recovery of the canceled giant in Beaver.
In the following weekend (12 and 13 December) the men's fast races to recover (downhill and super-G) will be held. In the women's field, a descent will be added to the traditional Swiss weekend in St. Moritz (5 and 6 December), while Courchevel will host a weekend with two technical races in December.
