The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has tentatively selected the hosts for the next three Winter Olympics, ensuring the event has a secure home until 2034. After Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo host in 2026, the French Alps will take center stage in 2030 , and Salt Lake City will regain its Olympic glory in 2034.

These two candidacies are still in active discussions with the IOC, and their selection is expected to be formalized in July 2024 at the IOC session in Paris. With France hosting the Summer Olympics in Paris in the same year, 2030 will be a unique year for the nation, hosting both the Summer and Winter Games.

The last experience of hosting the Winter Olympics in France dates back to 1992 in Albertville, while Grenoble successfully organized this event in 1968. The French Alps will host the Winter Olympics for the fourth time, which is a testament to the rich heritage of winter sports in the country.

The main reason why the Winter Olympic Games will be held in France for the fourth time is the attractiveness of the Alps, as well as, of course, the already proven good organization by France.

The USA once again has the honor of hosting the Winter Olympic Games

Salt Lake City, on the other hand, is no stranger to the grandeur of the Winter Olympics.

The city hosted the 2002 Olympics, presided over by then-President George W. Bush. The United States has a long history of hosting the Winter Olympics, having hosted the event in Lake Placid (1932 and 1980), Squaw Valley (1960) and most recently in Salt Lake City (2002).

While Salt Lake City initially considered a bid for the 2030 Games, the proximity of the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles prompted a strategic shift toward the 2034 edition. Switzerland and Sweden were among the candidates for the 2030 Games, with Switzerland reportedly gaining favor to host the 2038 Winter Olympics.

Official confirmation that Salt Lake City and the French Alps will host the Winter Olympics will come in July 2024. Although so far it has been shown that most of the main candidates end up being the official hosts of the Olympic Games.
