FIVB has published the new world volley rankings. They take into account the results obtained by the various national teams in recent years as this season will not be played due to the pandemic: the rankings released today will be the same that we will have even at the end of this tormented competitive year without activities for the national teams.

Among men Brazil, Olympic champion, is in command with 437 points ahead of Poland, holder of the World Championships (384). The USA complete the podium (365) ahead of Russia (317) and Argentina (291) while Italy is only seventh with 288 points, also behind France (291).

Among women, however, China commands: the Olympic Champions excel with 391 points, preceding the USA (382) and Brazil (328). Fourth place for Italy with 300 points ahead of Turkey (285) and Serbia, only sixth although she is World and European Champion.

Volleyball at the Tokyo Olympics

Just over a year is missing but the countdown for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games has already started.

Especially when the various sports publish the new tournament schedules, making us dream of a summer different from that of 2020. The inaugural match of vollyball should be between Italy, the Silver medal in Rio 2016, against Canada, on July 24th 2021.

Subsequently, Italy will play against Poland on July 26th then against Japan on July 28th. Italy vs Iran on 30th July while the last group match will be played on 1st August against Venezuela. The preliminary phase of the men's tournament will end on Sunday 1st August, followed by the quarterfinals scheduled on Tuesday 3rd August, while the semifinals will take place on Thursday 5th August.

The finals that will award the medals are set for Saturday 7th August. The women's group stage will end on Monday 2nd August, followed by the quarterfinals (Wednesday 4th) and the semifinals (Friday 6th). The medal matches will be staged on Sunday 8th August All the games of the Olympic volleyball tournaments will take place at the Ariake Arena, a newly built facility, inaugurated in recent weeks.
