Gilbert Burns: I want a rematch with Khamzat Chimaev

Gilbert Burns is ready for the next challenges that await him, and according to everything, his desire is Jorge Masvidal, and it seems that the UFC has such a fight planned.
“I think Jorge Masvidal is next,” Burns told reporters, including MMA Junkie, on the UFC Hall of Fame red carpet.

“He already said a couple of times; I said a couple of times. Today I just got my email with my new contract with the new deal. I’m looking forward to signing that right now, but every time that they send me the new contract, I think it’s because they’re kind of working on the fight, so I hope that’s the next one.

Me against Jorge Masvidal, September, October, I’ll be ready for it”. After finishing the match with Masvidal, he is ready for the next challenges in his career, which in the first plan is a rematch with Khazmat Chimaev, and then with Kamaru Usman.

“One hundred percent I’ll take that rematch,” Burns said. “I got two rematches I want to get done: first it’s Khamzat then the Kamaru fight. Those are two that I’m gonna keep chasing”.

He believes that a victory over Jorge Masvidal would put him in a position to fight Khamzat Chimaev. He continued, “But I do believe a good win over Jorge Masvidal might put me in that spot. I know it’s gonna be hard to get Khamzat an opponent – I don’t know that crazy talk with Nate Diaz, but I’m feeling it’s gonna be hard, so that’s why I want to get that fight done with Masvidal ASAP”.

Chimaev vs Burns

Chimaev in particular could be a good chance, given that Burns showed quality in the first fight as well. Belal Muhammad also praised Burns and pointed out Chimaev's weaknesses. “I saw weaknesses in him,” Muhammad told Brendan Schaub on “Food Truck Diaries”.

“Obviously people are like, ‘Oh man, he’s not as good as we thought he was.’ But I’m like, ‘Yo, he showed that he had the chin, he showed that he got power,’ and it’s like – you’re fighting Gilbert Burns”.

“When you get to the top five, if you’re not fighting with a strategy, you’re going to lose to the good guys,” Muhammad said. “For me, these last three fights I showed that I could fight with a strategy because they were all different fighters.

I fought Demian Maia, who’s – I had to stay up on my feet. I could not get taken down, so it was all defensive wrestling. Then I fought ‘Wonderboy,’ and I’m not going to kickbox with ‘Wonderboy,’ so I’m you’re going to go in there and take ‘Wonderboy’ down.
