Paulo Costa has a new opponent in the plan

Arranging a fight between Sean Strickland and Alex Perreira has seriously affected the ambitions of some fighters within the UFC’s Top 10 middleweight standings. Among other things, this includes Paulo Costa, who made his last appearance in October last year, when Marvin Vettori was better than him.

As his manager revealed, Costa was meanwhile offered a fight against Strickland, which he accepted, but Strickland turned to a more attractive offer, namely a fight against Perreira. Costa was thus left without an opponent, so he decided to call out the one who follows further in the middleweight rankings, and that is Derek Brunson.

"Now is the time for Derek Brunson to accept or run away. Sean has given up. Brunson?" Costa wrote on Twitter, apparently wanting to arrange his next fight as soon as possible. Brunson is currently in a situation where he is considering which step in his career to take next.

The defeat by Jared Cannonier was hard for him and there is no doubt that at the moment he is not too motivated to start a new training camp.

Costa and his next opponent

Still, a fight against Costa would be a kind of opportunity to return to where he was before the clash with Cannonier.

If he still hopes to do something more serious in his career, this is a great opportunity. As for Costa, for him, we can only hope that these provocations come with a decision on a serious approach because what we watch a few days before the fight against Marvin Vettori does not enter that sphere.

The Brazilian is a talented fighter, but it is obvious that the defeat by Adesanya had a rather negative effect on him. He is lucky that the UFC reacted quite tolerantly to his approach, that is, the decision a few days before the fight that he has no intention of losing weight.

Fortunately, in the end on his own, Vettori accepted the fight in the new conditions and won. Costa fought only once in 2020 and 2021, so his last triumph dates back to August 2019, when he defeated Yoel Romero in a real war.

It is certain that he eagerly strives for the next fight and that he is maximally motivated to prove himself and show his skills. It is still unknown who could be his opponent, but he will certainly not have an easy job in the fight with Costa. Let's wait, we could find out soon
