Masvidal canceled the match against Edwards: Chimaev wants to jump in

The bad news comes regarding the UFC 269 event to be held on December 11 this year. Hunter Campbell, the UFC’s chief business officer, told ESPN that Jorge Masvidal will not fight in the match against Leon Edwards. "Gamebred" canceled the performance due to injury, and the nature of the injury is not currently known.

The match between Masvidal and Edwards is very exciting for all MMA fans. The two best welters physically clashed in 2019 after a UFC event in London. Masvidal hit the Briton with a combination of blows and Briton was in the blood.

Edwards has been looking for a match against Masvidal for a long time, and he was finally supposed to get it later this year. Unfortunately, there won’t be any of that for now, and it’s not known if Edwards will perform at the UFC 269 event or his performance will be canceled altogether.

There will certainly be no shortage of candidates for replacement. As expected, Khamzat Chimaev was among the first to offer himself. The Chechen has been calling for a promotion for several days to allow him a match in December this year, and now a great opportunity has opened up.

Leon Edwards is the third-ranked challenger in the welterweight category, and Chimaev would skip a few steps with a possible victory, as Chechen is currently tenth in the challenger rankings.

Chimaev wants to fight

"Let's go, bro, we do it," Khamzat wrote on his Twitter profile, tagging Leon Edwards in the post.

By the way, Chimaev and Edwards were supposed to fight on December 19 last year. However, both fighters became infected with the coronavirus, and the Chechen had a series of complications in the following months and at one point retired briefly.

In the end, Chimaev and Edwards did not even fight, and it seems that a year later they are given the opportunity to do that match. However, after a while Edwards decided to post something on Twitter: "Disappointed but honestly I knew this fraud didn't want to fight me anyway.

He was just a stop off on the way to the title." "The goal remains the same. Much needed family time now, Usman i will see you soon" The UFC 269 event is the last UFC PPV event this calendar year. It will be led by Charles Oliveira and Dustin Poirier in the fight for the lightweight champion, while in the title fight of the evening Amanda Nunes will defend her belt in the bantamweight category. Her opponent will be Julianna Pena.
