Dominick Cruz managed to break a two-game losing streak and extend his career, as well as the hope that he can once again come to the position to fight for the title, with a victory by the referee's decision, which he achieved against Casey Kenney at the UFC 259 event this spring.
At one time, the best fighter of the bantamweight category did not look like in the best days in that fight, but the 36-year-old Cruz believes that it was just a bad day. He will have a chance to confirm that on Dec. 11 at the UFC 269 event.
There, according to still unofficial information, the fight between Cruz (23-3, 6-2 UFC) and Pedro Munhoz (19-6, 9-6 UFC) should be on the program. Cruz is currently in 11th place in the bantamweight challenger rankings, while Munhoz is placed two positions better than him.
It will be Munhoz's third appearance this year, after being better Jimmie River in February, breaking a two-game losing streak, but losing to Jose Aldo in August. Over the years in the UFC, Munhoz has proven to be an always dangerous fighter, whose biggest victories are certainly the ones he achieved against Rob Font and Cody Garbrandt.
Cruz is a fighter whose career has been marked by spectacular performances, but also major injury problems and a long break. His last break lasted even from December 2016, when the title was taken away from him by Garbrandt, until May last year, when he attacked the title then owned by Henry Cejudo.
The long break had a big impact and Dominick was defeated by a stoppage in the very end of the second round. This fight will certainly enrich the program of the event, which currently contains two fights for the UFC title.
Amanda Nunes will defend the one in the women's bantam against Julianne Pena, while the title fight will be the third clash of Brandon Moreno and Deiveson Figueiredo for the title of fly category. We certainly expect the maximum from both fighters because it is obvious that they are both top athletes and that they want to realize their full potential.
Cruz, although he had huge problems, will try to win, but he is aware that there is also a good fighter in the ring who will not give up easily. Munhoz has a great hit, he is moving great, and the question is what tactics he will prepare before this match. He will certainly pose a huge danger to Cruz
