UFC announced the first PPV in 2022

The UFC’s first PPV event in 2022 will be UFC 270, and will be held on January 22nd. This became official after the first two fights were announced for the same event. One is a middleweight clash that should bring the next challenger, while the other is a very intriguing clash of styles among the heavyweights.

An excellent matchmaking job was done in the middle category, where we will have the opportunity to find out who deserves an attack on the title, in a clash of two very energetic and strong fighters with excellent resumes.

Paired are Jared Cannonier, a fighter who is currently in third place in the challenger rankings, and Derek Brunson, who is just one position below him. Cannonier (14-5, 7-5) is on four wins from five appearances since he finally found himself in the middleweight division, and his last triumph dates back to last month, when he was better than Kelvin Gastelum after five rounds.

Other fights

As he suffered a defeat in the category only from Robert Whittaker, who is the next challenger, he rightly looks towards the fight for the title. But the challenger status will have to be confirmed by a win against another fighter of similar references.

Derek Brunson (23-7, 14-5 UFC) is currently in career form, having combined five wins, the last of which dates back to earlier this month, when he was better than Darren Till. After several stumbles before attacking the very top, he came to a better position than ever before and this 37-year-old now has only one more mission, to defeat his peer Cannonier.

Although not so important for the very top, the agreed heavyweight test is also very interesting. The oldest fighter on the entire UFC roster, Aleksei Oleinik (59-16-1, 8-7 UFC) will try out against Greg Hardy (7-4, 4-4 UFC).

Oleinik is currently on a three-game losing streak and this could be his last fight in the UFC, perhaps even if he wins. Hardy has been defeated in the last two appearances, which confirms that he is not the potential he first believed he was.

Still, to exist on the UFC roster he has quality. With the victory against the experienced Russian, he would certainly direct his career in the right direction again. The main fight of this show will be announced later, but there is some speculation about how Israel Adesanya and Robert Whittaker could be in it, in a big rematch and a fight for the middleweight title.
