The current UFC light heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz will soon have a second belt defense. The 38-year-old Pole won the title in September 2020 after defeating Dominick Reyes by knockout in the fight for the vacant title.

The vacancy was created because Jon Jones decided to leave the light heavyweight division in August of that year and start preparing to compete in the UFC heavyweight division. Jana Blachowicz made his first title defense in March this year, defeating Israel Adesanya by unanimous decision.

The middleweight champion had problems with grappling and the physical strength of the Poles, but Blachowicz behaved equally when the fight took place in a standing position. The Pole is often disputed as champions because he never beat Jon Jones.

However, the duo never even fought despite Jan Blachowicz’s great desire to get a chance to prove himself against one of the greatest fighters in history. Still, in an interview with MMA Fighting, the Pole revealed that he has come to terms with the fact that the fight is unlikely to happen.

"I think the conversation about Jon Jones is over. No more talking about him. I don’t know, maybe he won’t fight at all anymore, regardless of the light heavyweight or heavyweight division." "I don’t believe he will fight.

I don't know what he will do. I forgot about him. You have now reminded me of Jon Jones. Half a year ago, it would have been a different story." "Then I would tell you how I have to find him and win. But that was before, now I don’t care about him.

If he comes back, fine, if not, who cares, '' said Jan Blachowicz.

The situation in the category

Although Jon Jones left the light heavyweight category, the situation at the top was not so interesting in that category for a long time.

Glover Teixeira is the next belt challenger, and he will get a chance to take Jan’s belt on October 30 this year. Behind Glover Teixeira on the list of challengers were Jiri Prochazka and Aleksandar Rakić, and there are also upcoming names like Magomed Ankalaev and old acquaintances such as Thiago Santos, Dominick Reyes, and Anthony Smith.

Jan looked back at the entire light heavyweight division. "The situation is good (in the category). There are a lot of good, young guys and they all want to beat me. So, it's good. Magomed Ankalaev will fight at the same event as me (against Volkan Oezdemir)." "He is also a very good fighter and I am excited.

Like I said before, they motivate me to go to the gym and train really hard because they are good fighters and I have to be in constant shape." "They are all different, the styles are different, their sizes and strokes are also diverse. Our category looks great at the moment, '' the Pole praised his competition.
