The world's best kickboxer Alex Pereira (33-6-0) will sign a contract with the world's strongest MMA promotion after a rematch against Russian fighter Artem Vakhitov this Saturday. The news was transmitted by the Dutch De Telegraaf, and MMA Fighting also claims that several sources confirmed this information to them.
By the way, 34-year-old Alex Pereira is the middle and light heavyweight champion of GLORY. He is currently in a string of nine wins in a row and last appeared in January this year, defeating Artem Vakhitov, the former champion of the Glory light heavyweight division, by a split decision.
Pereira has a reputation as one of the best ‘P4P’ kickboxers in the world, and his popularity among MMA fans has further grown with the appearance of Israel Adesanya on the biggest MMA stage. Namely, Pereira twice defeated Israel Adesanya in his career.
They had their first match in 2016 and the Brazilian celebrated with a unanimous decision of the referees while in the 2017 rematch Pereira brutally knocked out the current UFC middleweight champion. Pereira thus became the only fighter who managed to finish Adesanya.
MMA experience
A great kick-boxer also has some MMA experience. He has competed four times in professional MMA matches and has recorded three wins and a loss. Pereira lost in his debut back in 2015 and then racked up three wins.
Still, his fights were against lower-quality opponents, and his last appearance was at the LFA 95 event in November 2020. He then knocked out Thomas Powell brilliantly (5-5-0, 1 NC). Pereira was supposed to fight at DWCS in Brazil in 2018, but his contract with GLORY prevented him from fighting for a contract with the UFC.
If the news turns out to be true and the Brazilian does sign a contract with the UFC after Saturday's performance against Vakhitov, there is no doubt that this fighter will attract a lot of attention. However, it remains to be seen what he can do in MMA against the strongest possible competition.
We remember Gokhan Saki who made his UFC debut in 2017 with a win against Henrique da Silva, only to lose by knockout to Khalil Rountree in 2018 and we never saw him in the Octagon again. Hopefully, Pereira will leave a better impression in the UFC.
Artem Vakhitov is an extremely dangerous opponent and he will certainly not have an easy job against him, given that Vakhitov is an excellent fighter
