Khabib Nurmagomedov spoke on the anniversary of his father's death

On the third day of July last year, the martial arts world was taken aback by the death of Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov. The father of the then UFC lightweight champion spent several months in hospital. The problems for Khabib’s father began in late April 2020.

Abdulmanap returned from a walk in the mountains and noticed respiratory problems. He refused to go to the doctor, but after two days he was forced to go to a hospital in Makhachkala where he was treated for pneumonia. He was negative for coronavirus until mid-May, but as time went on, the 57-year-old's condition deteriorated drastically.

A series of problems befell Abdulmanap. Starting from lung and heart problems all the way to stroke. Khabib’s father also spent part of his time in a coma, and the tragic culmination occurred on July 3 when the great Dagestani coach passed away.

Khabib Nurmagomedov posted on Instagram on the anniversary of his father's death. The post contains a video in which Abdulmanap feeds horses, and Khabib wrote in the text:

Instagram post

'' Today is a year since my father left us.

That event raised my level of awareness that nothing in this world belongs to us, not even our children, parents, and possessions." Nurmagomedov once again reminded us of the transience of life that we often forget.

His father's death seems to have changed his understanding of everything "Everything is temporary and transient. Everything belongs to Allah and to Him we will return. Bind your hearts to Allah, be more alone with Him."

"There will come a time when we will all end up in the grave, and there we will be alone. Our friends, relatives and possessions will not be with us, only our deeds will accompany us to the grave, '' wrote Khabib, who retired from the fight after his father's death.

Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov was a key figure in the formation of Khabib as one of the best MMA fighters in history. However, the influence of the late Nurmagomedov is not limited to Khabib. Abdulmanap is one of the most deserving for the growing breakthrough of Dagestanis on the global MMA scene.

Truly a great coach and man. Nurmagomedov decided it was best to quit the UFC after his father’s death and his death was seen to have hit him hard. The father was his guide through life and was with Khabib when no one else was.
