Jan Blachowicz and Glover Teixeira are fighting in Abu Dhabi

It looks like we’ll be waiting a little longer for the next fight for the UFC light heavyweight belt. Namely, according to the information of the "AG Fight" portal, the fight between Jan Blachowicz and Glover Teixeira has been moved to the UFC 267 event, which will be held on October 30 on Fight Island in Abu Dhabi.

The fight between Alexander Volkanovski and Brian Ortega now acts as an even more likely candidate to lead the UFC 266 event. The UFC had its last event on Fight Island back in January. Then Dustin Poirier defeated Conor McGregor by knockout in the second round of the UFC 257 event.

The planned return to Abu Dhabi is scheduled for the ninth day of October, and judging by the fact that UFC 267 will also be held there, it is clear that the UFC does not plan to come to the island to hold only one event.

Current champion Jan Blachowicz should thus defend the belt in the same place he won it by defeating Dominic Reyes in September last year at the UFC 253 event.

Teixeira stats

He did his first belt defense in Las Vegas by defeating Israel Adesanya in the third month of this year.

A little more than seven months will pass until his next fight, but the Pole also announced that he wants at least a six-month break so that he can hang out with his newborn son. The light heavyweight champion is within a great streak of five wins, and in his last 10 appearances, he has celebrated as many as nine times.

There is no doubt that he is entering the fight against Teixeira as a significant favorite. However, writing off the Brazilian veteran repeatedly proved to be a mistake. The 41-year-old has recorded five wins in the advanced stage of his career and reached the second opportunity for the UFC belt in his career.

Back in 2014, he lost to Jon Jones at UFC 172 events. The Brazilian is aware this is his last chance to touch UFC gold and there is no doubt that he will come to the fight extremely ready and motivated. His last fight was in November 2020 and his break will be even longer than Pole's, but the Brazilian does not want to risk a potential defeat in a fight that is not for the belt.

It is obvious that Aleksandar Rakić and Jan Prochazka will wait longer than expected and it is very likely that they will have to do another fight in the meantime. Their mutual fight could serve as a great overture to the fight between Jan Blachowicz and Glover Teixeira.
