Anthony Johnson will fight Jose Augusto

Instead of Yoel Romero, Anthony Johnson (22-6) will have Jose Augusto (7-2, 1 nc) as his first opponent in the Bellator light heavyweight tournament. As we wrote earlier, this change came after the 44-year-old Cuban veteran was left without a medical license to perform at Bellator 258.

The 29-year-old Brazilian, who replaces the former UFC challenger, is a little-known name in the MMA scene, but he is an unbeaten fighter in his last six appearances (5 wins, 1 no contest) and has one appearance under Bellator's auspices, but also one choking victory he achieved in April this year (Jonathan Wilson).

Augusto recorded all his victories with stoppage(5 KO / TKO, 2 SUB), and 'Rumble' confirmed that he is a dangerous opponent. "I wish I could fight him (Romero), but in Jose, I got a new opponent who is on a five-game winning streak."

"For me, he’s more dangerous than Yoel. He can’t lose anything in this match, and he can get so much of that, ”Johnson commented on the change in an interview he gave to the South China Morning Post.

'Rumble's' plan and goal remain the same, and the fight against Augusto will be his first after four years and the defeat inflicted on him by Daniel Cormier. "They had an opponent in the combinations, but that one wasn't worth my time and effort.

There was also talk that I could fight Yoel in July, but I didn't want to wait that long." "So congratulations to Jose for jumping in. I respect him for that move. This is not only dangerous for me, it is dangerous for him as well, but for him, this is also a great opportunity," Anthony concluded.

Mohegan Sun Arena

Bellator 258 takes place on the night of Friday to Saturday, and the venue will once again be the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville. Both fighters have been great lately and seem to be in phenomenal form.

Jose Augusto will not have much time to prepare but many should certainly respect his move and his courage when he decided to be a replacement for Romero. Augusto will have an opportunity he has not had before, and he will certainly do his best to use it in the right way.

A great fighter is waiting for him on the way, but if he is focused and motivated, he could use that chance. Johnson is certainly the favorite, but he will also have to be careful, because Augusto is not someone he should underestimate
