Information is coming from several different sources that Tyron Woodley is no longer a member of the world's leading MMA promotion Nothing is official yet, but several martial arts media reports that the UFC has not extended its contract with the former welterweight champion.
The whole story actually rolled after Aaron Bronsteter from TSN published a refreshed UFC ranking that we should see on the official website of the American Martial Arts Promotion next week. According to the list published by this well-known MMA journalist, Woodley is no longer on the welterweight rankings, and with his elimination in the TOP 15, Khamzat Chimaev appeared.
"Several sources have confirmed to us that Woodley broke up with the UFC," reports FightBook MMA, according to which Tyron's match with Vicente Luque was his last under a contract with the UFC. ‘The Chosen One’ has spent more than eight years under the auspices of the UFC.
He made his debut back there in February 2013 when he knocked out Jay Hieron. After that, most people started talking about Woodley and his qualities, which Woodley confirmed during his career. After that, he realized the dream of every fighter Three years later he won the title by stopping then-champion Robbie Lawler.
He then kept his belt after the next four fights and was left without a title in March 2019, when he was defeated by the still current champion Kamaru Usman by a unanimous decision of the referees.
The defeat by Usman marked the beginning of the most difficult period in Woodley's career.
The former champion not only tied the defeats for the first time, but he recorded as many as four in a row. The last one, the work was previously mentioned by Luque who strangled him at the recently held UFC 260. Woodley currently has a ‘score’ of 19 wins, seven losses, and one draw.
Again, nothing is official yet and a UFC reaction is expected soon. Certainly, this is a big defeat for Woodley who was one of the main fighters in the category. It is amazing how some fighters end up at the bottom so quickly and so easily.
Still, Woodley at least felt what it was like to be on top and he was certainly aware that some new times were coming some new fighters. We'll wait to see if this news is reliable, and it will be interesting to hear what Woodley says about all this.
