Volkov:"I'm doing things I haven't done before"

No matter how bad and unrecognizable Alistair Overeem looked in the main fight of UFC Fight Night 184, no one can dispute the quality of what Alexander Volkov showed. The Russian heavyweight came to do the job confidently and presented it from the first second.

He created pressure on the legendary Dutchman, to which he had no answer, and he broke it slightly until he finished it after exactly two minutes of the second round. Of course, shortly after such a victory, he was still excited, but that is the time when first impressions are given.

And they were taken over by Daniel Cormier, to whom Alexander immediately presented his ambition. "I feel great and I'm still excited about the win. This is my time, I came to take the belt," Drago said, adding a more detailed comment on the fight itself: "I worked a lot on that direct and on the whole leg fight, but I also prepared the wrestling.

In the fight itself, I felt good from the beginning, I saw that I could finish it and I just continued the way I started the fight. At the beginning of the second round I saw his face and I was just waiting for the real blow I found.

Fight for the belt

This is the second fight in a row that Volkov was on the upper heavyweight limit of 120 kilograms, while before he weighed between 111 and 114 kilograms, and these two performances are certainly the best in his UFC career so far.

He agreed with that, but he discovered that he was still in the process of progress and that the best was yet to come. "I think I'm in very good shape at the moment, but I think I'll be even better in the future.

I'm working on all the skills in tough camps, I'm doing things I haven't done before and that's why I'm better than I was," he revealed, referring to what might follow in his next performance: "Of course I want to fight for the belt, but there are a few good heavyweight fights ahead of us right now.

We'll see what happens in them and where my place will be, but I'm definitely looking towards the belt fight." Volkov is certainly in a situation where he can count on the place of the challenger if he achieves another such impressive victory.

A small minus in all this is the fact that he has earlier defeats by Curtis Blaydes and Derrick Lewis. This heavyweight duo will soon be fighting each other and the winner would definitely have the advantage. There is also Jairzinho Rozenstruk's fight against Cyril Gane, and we must not forget the arrival of Jon Jones. There could be exciting heavy-duty pairings in the near future.
