Tom Aspinall did not shy away from trying his luck to secure a match with Jon Jones, but to his disappointment, it remains a futile attempt as Jon Jones is focused on fighting Stipe Miocic next, and chances are high for him to retire after his next fight.

Michael Bisping understands the narrative where people are expecting Stipe Miocic to fight Tom Aspinall instead of waiting for the Jon Jones fight. Quite evidently, it’s a massive risk as a loss will perish the golden opportunity of facing Jon Jones and potentially becoming the new UFC heavyweight champion of the world.

Jon Jones vs Stipe Miocic is expected to take place in the second half of 2024. An official announcement can be expected after Jon Jones’ announces that he’s fully recovered.

In a recent YouTube video, Michael Bisping shared his thoughts on Stipe Miocic facing Tom Aspinall and explained why that would be the wrong choice.

“The man’s 42 years old in August. He hasn’t fought since he got knocked out against Francis Ngannou almost three years ago,” Bisping said, as quoted by mmajunkie.usatoday.com. “And in that three years, let’s be honest, you’re declining, you’re getting older, so yeah, go fight Tom Aspinall, everyone thinks you’re the man, but what’s at risk? Well, the fight with Jon Jones”.

“Now I’m a fan of Tom Aspinall, OK, but if I’m managing Stipe, I say you sidestep Tom Aspinall all day long, even if Stipe looked kind of interested, I would give him a slap in the face.

I’m like, ‘What are you talking about?’ Fighters need to be protected from themselves, and if Stipe was thinking about that, it just doesn’t make smart business sense”.
