The UFC bantamweight champion Sean O’Malley picked Marlon Vera for his first title defense because he wanted to settle previous scores and avenge his only career defeat. Marlon Vera would like to do the same if he successfully becomes the new UFC bantamweight champion; he recently confessed that if he was given the authority to choose his next opponent, it would be Cory Sandhagen because facing a loss against Sandhagen still bothers him.

Marlon Vera will face Sean O’Malley for the rematch on 9th March; it will be interesting to see if he’s successful in beating Sean O’Malley again. In their first fight, Marlon Vera claimed a 1st round knockout win; both fighters will face each other almost after 3.5 years.

Sean O’Malley has improved a lot as a fighter since he last fought Marlon Vera, and it is worth knowing that he hasn’t faced a loss ever since that fight.

Marlon Vera on his first title defense

In a recent interview with The Schmo, Marlon Vera explained why he would pick Cory Sandhagen for his first title defense.

“I will ask for Sandhagen because he beat me,” Vera said, as quoted by mmajunkie.usatoday.com. “That’s the only reason I will choose that fight. The winner of Merab (Dvalishvili) and Henry (Cejudo) is also a big fight, and the UFC knows, whoever they pick I will (fight).

But if I had to choose myself, I want to kick Cory’s *. I know his dorky ass is crying about it, but it’s not my fault no one gives a * about him”.

Marlon Vera on getting a title shot opportunity

“The only reason this fight is happening is because I beat him [Sean O’Malley], that’s the only reason the fight is happening.

So, I’m glad it came out like that. This is the best moment to do it, title fight, and I’m excited to become a world champion soon”.
