Deiveson Figueiredo is officially a bantamweight contender; he made a successful debut against Rob Font by claiming a dominating unanimous decision win. Deiveson Figueiredo does not aim to compete in the low tier. He looks forward to making the climb to the top and is eagerly waiting to face the current bantamweight champion, Sean O'Malley.
Interestingly, Sean O'Malley rated Deiveson Figueiredo's debut a '3' out of 10, and that, in all obviousness, did not please Figueiredo.
Deiveson Figueiredo is currently the 8th ranked contender in the competitive bantamweight rankings; he is 3-4 wins away from accomplishing his goal of securing a title fight.
Deiveson Figueiredo on Sean O’Malley
Recently, on The MMA Hour, Deiveson Figueiredo shared his thoughts on fighting Sean O'Malley and explained why he wants to fight him eagerly.
"I think that he has something to worry about," Figueiredo said, as quoted by mmafighting.com. "I'm the original. And if he's the virus, I'm the antivirus to him. I think I have a big name coming into the division, I think that's definitely a possibility.
I'm a two-time former champion. My last fight at 125 [pounds against Brandon Moreno,] I had not had a good camp and now I am great. I feel that could be a possibility. However, I will patiently await what the UFC has in mind for me."
Deiveson Figueiredo on who he wants next
"I'm ready for whoever they wanna put me against; the first name to come to my mind would be Sean O'Malley, so besides him, whoever they put against me." Sean O'Malley has a wide list of opponents to defend his belt against.
As for now, he will handle Marlon Vera, who was the only opponent successful in giving him a taste of defeat. Their match is scheduled to take place on 9th March 2024 (UFC 299).
