Colby Covington’s recent performance against Leon Edwards disappointed many fans and MMA experts mainly because he expressed sheer confidence before the fight and guaranteed an explosive performance. Dana White acknowledged that it was an underwhelming performance from Covington’s end; Dana White believes Colby Covington got ‘out-wrestled’ by Leon Edwards.

Interestingly, Colby Covington believes that he won the fight against Leon Edwards and claims that he didn’t get damaged at all – in response, spectators worldwide uploaded images focusing on the heavy scars eaten by Covington from the fight.

Leon Edwards will most likely defend his belt against Belal Muhammad next; if not, Belal Muhammad may face Shavkat Rakhmonov, and the winner of that fight could get a title shot.

Dana White on Colby Covington

During the recent press conference, Dana White shared his thoughts on Colby Covington’s performance and explained where he fell short.

“My take on it is when you’re 35 years old or any age in this sport and you’re like, ‘Yeah, I’m going to wait,’ waiting is never a good idea in this sport,” White said as quoted by mmafighting.com.

“This sport doesn’t wait for anybody. He looked slow tonight. He got out-wrestled. Leon looked good, Leon looked fast. Looked like [Colby] had trouble dealing with his speed and then getting out-wrestled too. Not to mention Leon absolutely destroyed that leg too.

I think pressure gets to everybody, I’m sure Leon had a ton of pressure. I mean, he was just talking about what [Colby] said about his father and the last thing you want to do now is go out and lose to that guy. All these guys deal with pressure, but Colby’s been in big fights before.

This isn’t Colby’s first rodeo. He’s been in big fights. Colby just looked slow and old tonight, in my opinion. I think everybody felt the same way. I mean, he got out-wrestled by Leon tonight”.
