Kamaru Usman accepted the fight against Khamzat Chimaev on 10 days short notice and yet he performed well. Some fans and MMA experts believe if Usman vs Chimaev had a 5 round match, then Usman’s hands would have been raised that night.

Khamzat Chimaev promised an explosive performance but played tactically against Usman to claim a majority decision win. Usman is stuck on a 3 match losing streak for the first time in his career; he may return to the welterweight division and compete against the top contenders.

As far as Chimaev is concerned, he is one step away from getting a title fight.

Colby Covington on Kamaru Usman vs Khamzat Chimaev

During the recent media day, Colby Covington shared his thoughts on Kamaru Usman vs Khamzat Chimaev.

“I thought he beat him. I thought he beat (Chimaev),” Covington said, as quoted by “(Usman) was striking him. I thought he dropped him. He was scared to strike with him. He didn’t even hit him once, you know.

Look at the significant strikes that were landed. If that was a five-round fight, Usman would have destroyed him. He would have finished him in those championship rounds. I thought he looked good. He took it on, what, four or five days’ notice at 185 (pounds) – up a weight class, never fought at that weight class.

I thought he beat him”.

Colby Covington on fighting Kamaru Usman for the trilogy

“The first round was a tossup. I do feel like I beat him in that fight and I feel like I’m a better fighter than him. I would love to see that trilogy.

That’s another fight that plays out, so all these other contenders can wait because that’s bigger business that me and Usman have to settle. It’s unfinished business”.
