Tom Aspinall, the newly crowned UFC interim heavyweight champion, has set his sights on a clash with legendary former champion Stipe Miocic for his first title defense. Aspinall captured the interim belt in emphatic fashion, knocking out Sergei Pavlovich in the first round at UFC 295.

With current undisputed champion Jon Jones sidelined due to injury, Aspinall believes a matchup with Miocic is the next logical step. "Stipe was ready to go two weeks ago when he was supposed to fight Jon Jones," Aspinall stated in an interview with The Mac Life.

"Who else am I gonna fight at this point? Jon Jones is injured, what else makes sense at this point?" Aspinall: Stipe is the best heavyweight ever for me While the UFC has expressed interest in rebooking Jones and Miocic once Jones recovers, Aspinall is eager to remain active and further solidify his position as a top contender.

He believes a victory over Miocic would be a significant statement and a fitting tribute to one of the greatest heavyweight fighters of all time. "It would be an epic showdown," Aspinall explained. "Stipe is one of my favorite fighters ever.

I believe he's the best heavyweight ever and I want to see what it's like to step into the Octagon with a fighter like that and I want to experience that before I retire, but what else more importantly, before he retires which is in the not too distant future."

Miocic inactive for a long time

Miocic, a two-time UFC heavyweight champion, has not competed since losing his title to Francis Ngannou in March 2021.

Despite his recent inactivity, Miocic remains a highly respected figure in the heavyweight division and a potential matchup with Aspinall would generate considerable excitement among fans. Aspinall's call for a fight with Miocic is a bold one, but it also reflects his confidence and ambition.

The 30-year-old Englishman is determined to prove himself as the true heavyweight king and a showdown with Miocic would be a major step towards achieving that goal. While the UFC has yet to officially announce the next opponent for either Aspinall or Miocic, the prospect of a clash between these two heavyweight heavyweights is undoubtedly intriguing.

Aspinall's desire to face Miocic is a clear indication of his hunger for greatness, and it will be interesting to see how the UFC responds to his challenge.
