The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is set to close out its 2023 calendar year with a bang, as UFC 296 takes center stage on December 16th at the T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nevada. This highly anticipated event will feature a welterweight title fight between reigning champion Leon Edwards and former interim champion Colby Covington, a clash that promises to be nothing short of explosive.

Edwards, the current king of the welterweight division, has been on a remarkable run, accumulating an impressive ten-fight winning streak. His most recent victory, a stunning knockout of Kamaru Usman at UFC 286, solidified his position as the undisputed welterweight champion.

Covington, on the other hand, is a former interim champion and a well-known provocateur in the UFC. Despite his controversial persona, Covington is a formidable opponent with a wealth of experience and a proven track record of success.

He has defeated some of the division's top contenders, including Jorge Masvidal and Rafael dos Anjos.

Both fighters started a verbal war

The rivalry between Edwards and Covington has been simmering for years, and their upcoming clash is sure to ignite the T-Mobile Arena.

Both fighters have expressed their intense dislike for each other, making the stakes even higher. Edwards, known for his calm and composed demeanor, has vowed to defend his title with everything he has. "I'm going to show the world why I'm the champion," he declared.

Covington, never one to shy away from a verbal sparring match, has promised to dethrone Edwards in brutal fashion. 'You won't see me crying and hysterical and acting like I didn't expect that. I'm ready and I know I'm the best fighter on the planet at welterweight and in the UFC.

I'm going to look like I expected this,'' Colby told the UFC. "All this is not because of the goal, the path is important for me. I had a great trip and developed a lot. No one has ever seen what I do and how hard I work every day and how much blood, sweat and tears I put into all of this.

On December 16, the world will see a brutal awakening. All my haters will be soaked,'' he added. Beyond the main event, UFC 296 boasts a stacked undercard featuring a flyweight title fight between Alexandre Pantoia and Brandon Royval, as well as intriguing matchups in other weight classes.

With just over three weeks until the event, the anticipation is palpable among UFC fans worldwide. UFC 296 promises to be a night of intense rivalries.
