Justin Gaethje is one step away from fighting for the lightweight belt again. He may have to wait for a little longer as Charles Oliveira could most likely be next against Makhachev. However, the UFC could also match up Gaethje and Oliveira, and the winner of that match could fight Makhachev for the belt.
Michale Bisping suggests Gaethje to not stay inactive as he believes it could make him less relevant. Bisping wants Gaethje to defend his BMF belt against Max Holloway. From the entertainment perspective, that would be a fascinating match, but the UFC may not entertain it.
Conor McGregor has shown interest in fighting Gaethje; McGregor aims to return in April 2024; perhaps after fighting Michael Chandler, he could go after Justin Gaethje next.
Michael Bisping on Justin Gaethje’s next fight
In a recent YouTube video, Michael Bisping explained why he thinks Justin Gaethje should fight Max Holloway next.
“Max Holloway? Sign me up,” Bisping said as quoted by mmajunkie.usatoday.com. “Justin Gaethje, Max Holloway, ‘BMF’ belt, make some more history, defend the ‘BMF’ belt. He would be the first person ever to defend the ‘BMF’ belt.
I mean, that’s a pretty cool thing. Listen, we know that’s kind of a made-up belt for promotion purposes, but it’s cool, and the fans dig it, and I love it. Why not? Come on, defend the ‘BMF’ against Max Holloway and in the meantime, Charles Oliveira, Islam Makhachev, they go to war.
Bisping further said: Islam probably gets the job done there and then Justin Gaethje steps up, fights him wherever it is, Las Vegas, Abu Dhabi, I don’t care. I just want to see the fight. So there it is. I don’t think Justin Gaethje should sit out because history has shown that you can be forgotten about”.
