Justin Gaethje claimed a significant knockout win against Dustin Poirier that has boosted his chances of being the title challenger. The only person who is blocking an immediate title fight is Charles Oliveira. Gaethje may have to wait a little longer or fight someone else before he can get his hands around the lightweight champion Islam Makhachev.

It will be fascinating to see who the UFC matches Islam Makhachev against next. In a possible scenario, the UFC may ask Oliveira and Gaethje to fight, and the winner of the match can get the ticket to the title fight.

Justin Gaethje on his next fight

In a recent interview with ESPN, Justin Gaethje spoke about his next fight and considered the possible scenarios before he can get the title fight.

“Who do I fight?” Gaethje said, as quoted by mmafighting.com. “There’s no one. I did what I had to do. ... I don’t know what else I need to do.If they want to put Oliveira in there, then I fight him in September [or next October].

I have no issues waiting. Again, as I get older I get to understand from now until the time I’m gonna fight him I’m gonna be building strength, I’m gonna be working on my cardio, I’m gonna be refining my skills.

So, I’ll take as much time as they give me, and I’ll be that much more readyI already beat up [Michael] Chandler, so he’s not there. Or else that would be one, I would say Holloway, but I don’t ever want to fight Holloway so...

Justin Gaethje on Islam Makhachev: “I think he’s out here copying my moves, He’s obviously watching me, so, yeah. It’s good, man. I’m excited to fight him. Before the [Volkanovski] fight, I said he wasn’t Khabib, but I guess I’m just gonna have to **** around and find out because I’m not sure”.
