The rising bantamweight contender Jonathan Martinez recently fought against Adrian Yanez and secured a mind-blowing 2nd round knockout win. Martinez wants to challenge himself; further, he believes he can easily beat 2nd ranked Merab Dvalishvili.
Apart from Dvalishvili, Martinez is ready to fight against anyone from the top 10 rankings. After the recent performance, Jonathan Martinez has updated his professional MMA record to 19-4.
He is 2-3 wins away from fighting someone from the top 5 in the bantamweight division.
It would be fair to assume that he will fight one more time before the year ends; he mentioned two names: Pedro Munhoz and Dominic Cruz. It will be interesting to see if the UFC matches Jonathan Martinez with someone from the top 10 next.
Jonathan Martinez on fighting Merab Dvalishvili
Recently, on HABLEMOS MMA, Jonathan Martinez explained why he thinks he can easily beat Merab Dvalishvili. “I’ve always looked at him [Merab Dvalishvili] because no one in the division wants to fight him,” Martinez said, as quoted by mmajunkie.usatoday.com.
“Many fight, win, and no one mentions his name. I can see myself beating him. People might say, ‘Oh, he’s a great wrestler. He’ll press you against the cage and this and that,’ but the thing is that I like when people try to wrestle me, that’s the way I like to fight the most.
Martinez further said: “I believe I can beat him[Merab Dvalishvili]. He’s a regular wrestler. He just does a one, two and then goes for the legs. From 10 and above, really, I’d like to get Pedro (Munhoz) because he beat my friend Chris (Gutierrez).
I’ve also been calling out Dom (Cruz) for my last three fights, but I doubt they’ll ever give him to me. So whatever the UFC wants. I would also like to fight in Mexico”.
