Something about the fight was really strange; fans and MMA experts noticed it – it was Israel Adesanya’s overall performance. He lacked the competitive spirit he normally has, and his striking was also not up to the point.
Israel Adesanya could get an immediate rematch; if not, he may have to fight Dricus Du Plessis, and the winner of that fight could progress towards getting a title shot. Sean Strickland proved what he’s truly capable of doing; it will be interesting to see how long he can sustain his position as the middleweight champion of the world.
Sean Strickland reacts to Adesanya’s performance
During the post match press conference, Sean Sean Strickland expressed how he felt about Adesanya’s performance. “Goddamn, dude. I feel like the guy didn’t even try,” Strickland said, as quoted by mmajunkie.usatoday.com. “There were times where he was throwing punches and I was like, ‘Am I fighting an amateur, right now? What the **** is going on?’ But yeah, I think I run my mouth a lot and people forget I can fight.
But here we are, you guys. You’re going to have to talk to me a bit longer. Sorry about that. You know, I thought I was going to be leaving with a concussion but I feel relatively fine other than a few bumps and bruises, the game plan was to wrestle, you guys.
Strickland further said: We wrestled all camp. But when you’re a little *****, you just do what you do. I think I’m one of the best strikers in the world. Any time you’re doing the ‘man dance,’ you’re one punch away from being knocked out.
But I could spar with any world champion boxer and get the better of them. I don’t know, man. I just think I’m one of the best strikers in the world”.
