The UFC bantamweight champion Sean O’Malley has worked his way to the top, and after his recent win against Aljmain Sterling, he is getting a lot more respect than he normally did. Chael Sonnen is amongst the many people who can finally see the differentiating factor Sean O’Malley has as a fighter.
O’Malley has his own style both inside and outside the ring. Sean O’Malley could fight Marlon Vera next; if not, he will move on to fighting Henry Cejudo or some top contender from the division. Some believe O’Malley is the new Conor McGregor; after the last fight, O’Malley definitely made it to the top, and it will be interesting to see how long he can sustain his position.
Chael Sonnen on Sean O’Malley
In a recent Q&A session, Chael Sonnen shared his thoughts on Sean O’Malley and the impact he has had in the fight world. “There was a show called ‘American Idol’ years ago, and there was this British guy that was a jerk called Simon Cowell, and he came out and told the world that some people have the ‘it-factor,’ and that term has stuck around ever since the guy said it,” Sonnen said, as quoted by mmajunkie.usatoday.com.
“We know what that means, right? And Sean O’Malley has the it-factor. Plus he’s pulling this new gimmick, it’s not just with the hair. “Now he’s going places without his shirt on, or if he gets there and he has his shirt on he takes his shirt off.
Sonnen further said: It’s funny. The guy is good. It’s those simple little things that go a long way. I worked with Teddy Atlas this morning, and he made a comparison not to Conor McGregor, he made a comparison with Sean O’Malley to Israel Adesanya that I thought was very interesting.
I didn’t think about it once Teddy said it, but after he said it, I get that comparison. Yeah, man, his star is on the rise”.
