The flyweight battle between Kai Kara-France and Manel Kapel is officially off because Kara-France suffered a concussion and, as a precautionary measure, has made the decision to withdraw from the event. Kapel will now look for a new opponent, and it will be interesting to see who the UFC matches him up against next.
This was Kapel’s golden opportunity to climb up in the competitive flyweight division; he would be hoping to fight someone from the top 5, as that would place him further ahead in the queue to get a title shot. Kai Kara-France will now show up at some other UFC event before the end of 2023; he was disheartened to announce the news and took the time to apologize to all his fans.
Kai Kara-France on pulling out
In a recent Instagram video, Kai Kara-France revealed that he is withdrawing from the UFC 293 event due to a concussion. “I just wanted to come on here and give you guys an update,” Kara-France said, as quoted by mmajunkie.usatoday.com.
“Unfortunately, I’ve had to withdraw from my next fight in Sydney, Australia: UFC 293. I suffered a concussion over the weekend in training. I’ve been speaking to my coaches, my team, and my family. They all think it’s the right decision to put my health first.
Kara-France further said: “I just want to say sorry to all the friends and family that bought tickets, flights, accommodation, (and to) all of the fans that were excited to fight live. I’m gutted I won’t be a part of this card.
It’s been a tough week with my second son being born as well as me pulling out of this fight. Mixed emotions. Frustrated. But I’ve just got to focus on the positives and just spend time with my loved ones. I appreciate the ongoing support and we’ll be back soon.
Much love”.
