Fans that were eagerly waiting for Conor McGregor's comeback will, unfortunately, have to wait for a little longer as McGregor recently confirmed that he most likely won't be able to fight before 2023 ends. Apparently, his return was being aimed for December 16th, UFC 296, but the athletic commission is refusing to let him return – which means McGregor's comeback match will be deferred to the early phase of 2024.
Conor is expected to fight Michael Chandler, but recently he shared his inclination to fight Justin Gaethje and Nate Diaz for the trilogy bout. On a brighter note, there is a slim chance for McGregor to fight on December 16th, but according to McGregor, as for now, the chances are very low.
Conor McGregor on his comeback match
Recently in an Audio note uploaded on Twitter, Conor McGregor spoke about his return and explained how he won't be able to make it this year. "They're not going to let me fight in December, ladies and gentlemen," McGregor said, as quoted by mmajunkie.usatoday.com.
"You've seen Chris Weidman (at UFC 292). Imagine what that injury is. I feel like I'm being kept from my livelihood, and I've been feeling this for years. I'm not going to air grievances. I'm going to buoy down and soldier on. I'm ready.
I wanted an announcement for (UFC 296 on) Dec. 16. I've given everything. So, it's not going to happen. It doesn't look like it's going to happen." "I hold the power, I'm going to keep doing my thing. I'm in a great spot, and I'll see yas all soon.
McGregor further said: Early next year, hopefully. Please God, someone. Ari, Ari. My man. I'm ready, yeah? Dec. 16, I am ready. Nevada State Athletic Commission, Bob Bennett may have retired. Un-retire. Because when I'm around the game – ring Bob Bennett.
Tell the commission what's the story, because I'm being kept from my livelihood here. Turns out Bob's retired and I'm like, 'What the ****?'.
