Stephen Thompson is ready to fight Kamaru Usman: “I am all for it”

‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ Kamaru Usman has been inactive ever since his gutting loss against Leon Edwards. Usman recently showed his interest in fighting Stephen Thompson and believes that the fight makes the most sense to him at this stage of his career.

As an obvious response, Stephen Thompson unflinchingly acknowledged the opportunity and is equally inclined to be a part of such a massive event. Thompson last fought against Kevin Holland last year, he was supposed to fight against Michael Pereira in the UFC 291 event, but the match got cancelled because Pereira failed to make weight and missed the limit by 3 pounds.

Hopefully, before this year ends, fights fans worldwide can see the potential match between Kamaru Usman and Stephen Thompson.

Stephen Thompson’s response to Kamaru Usman

In a recent interview with TMZ, Stephen Thompson shared his thoughts on fighting Kamaru Usman and explained why it would be a good matchup.

“I did hear that because my phone got blown up with what he was saying,” Thompson said, as quoted by mmajunkie.usatoday.com. “Everybody on social media was like, ‘Man, he said this, he said this, he said this.’ I was hoping something positive will come out of last weekend and to hear that news – he has always been somebody, him, those guys in the top three who I’ve never faced before.

“Kamaru Usman has always been a guy that I just never had the opportunity to face off against. For him to say he was willing to fight, and it makes sense at this point, is awesome. I’m all for it, to be honest with you.

Thompson further said: I am all for it”. “To be able to have a shot at the No. 1 seed, are you kidding me? And a good athlete, a good person in Kamaru Usman, I’m all for it,“I love battling those type of guys.

The guys with professionalism, those guys that are good people inside and outside of the octagon. We’ve hung out a few times and we’ve always been very cordial, but that would be awesome. MSG or whenever he wants to do it.
