Jared Cannonier does not see Sean Strickland winning a title fight

Jared Cannonier cannot foresee Sean Strickland winning against Israel Adesanya and believes that Strickland’s main motive is only to earn money. The middleweight division is super competitive; Dricus Du Plessis has booked his spot as the next title challenger after securing a spectacular win against Robert Whittaker - so the right question to ask is, who is next after Dricus Du Plessis for the title shot.

There’s a little twist to this, recently Adesanya uploaded a video and said that Du Plessis wouldn't be able to make it for the fight in September because of an injury, and that’s how the conversation for a fight between Sean Strickland and Israel Adesanya was initiated.

It could be anyone from the top 5, Jared Cannonier is also looking forward to a title shot, and it will be interesting to see how the UFC ends up reserving the next spot.

Jared Cannonier on Sean Strickland

In a recent interview with Helen Yee, Jared Cannonier explained why Sean Strickland does not have what it takes to beat Israel Adesanya if they end up fighting next.

“Sean doesn’t even believe he could win that fight,” Cannonier said, as quoted by mmajunkie.usatoday.com. “He just wants to go in there and fight and get some money. I believe I can win that fight. I think that’s the big difference between me and those other guys.

Izzy is not an easy fight. The way those styles match up, I don’t think Sean will be able to work his jab and his funky-ass footwork, and his ability to evade shots. Cannonier further said: Izzy is way too long. He’s a sniper.

Izzy is too diverse and versatile with his striking, and I don’t think Sean’s grappling is good enough to make it a factor to make it as competitive”. “A fight is a fight, a lot of us didn’t think Du Plessis was able to do what he did to Robert Whittaker, so I wouldn’t count any man out in this game – especially at the top of the division.

All of us have the ability to go in there, protect ourselves and incapacitate our opponents. But my money would be on Izzy if I were a betting man”.
