The featherweight contender Nathaniel Wood secured a comprehensive victory against Andre Fili and now looks forward to elevating his game by challenging himself against tougher opponents. Wood is just a few wins away from being featured in the top 15 rankings of the competitive featherweight division.
Nathaniel Wood revealed that he had watched Andre Fili before he entered UFC, and it was a great moment for him to share the ring with him. Nathaniel Wood now has a professional record of 20-5, and it would be fair to assume that he will fight once more before the end of 2023.
Nathaniel Wood on his next fight
During the recent post fight press conference, Nathaniel Wood revealed the big names he wants for his next fight and talked about fighting Andre Fili. “I would like to fight a legend of the sport, and that would be Edson Barboza in Brazil,” Wood said, as quoted by mmajunkie.usatoday.com.
“It would be an absolute honor again, like I just said with Andre Fili. I’ve been a fan of his for years, and I know he’s coming toward the end of his career. “For me, someone like (Chan Sung Jung), ‘The Korean Zombie,’ that would be something special.
I would like to get one of the legends before they kind of retire from the sport or go on decline. Edson Barboza is coming off a win. He’s still a dangerous opponent. For me, that’s a fight I would like. But whatever the UFC wants.
Wood further said: I will fight anyone they give me and start making my way up the rankings. It was amazing to share the octagon with Andre Fili, I sounded like a fanboy, but I was watching him way before I was in the UFC. It must’ve been when I was semi-pro, amateur. I was following him, Urijah Faber and all his boys.
