The past few years have been pretty rough for the former UFC fighter Kevin Lee, he has been dealing with injuries, and then he left the UFC and joined it again, but the comeback knock turned out to be one of the greatest disappointments of his career as he was knocked out cold by Rinat Fahkretdinov in just 55 seconds.Shortly after making his much-awaited comeback, Kevin Lee officially announced his retirement a few days ago.
Kevin Lee has been questioning retirement since 2020, and after his match against Charles Oliveira, he wanted to announce it because he wasn’t very pleased with his performance. At that stage he thought he was done once and for all, yet he chose to persevere but it turned out to be a futile attempt as he faced one more defeat in 2021 against Daniel Rodriguez.
Kevin Lee’s thoughts on retiring before
Recently on Submission Radio, Kevin Lee spoke about the thoughts running around in his mind after facing a submission defeat against Charles Oliveira in 2020. “My knees have just been giving me hell for three years now,” Lee said, as quoted by mmajunkie.usatoday.com.
“The hardest thing before this was weight-cutting, right? Me going up to 170 kind of alleviated that but I’ve never had to deal with this type of injury before. Lee further said: “If I’m really being honest, it’s something I’ve been thinking about since I fought Charles Oliveira, even Firas Zahabi will tell you, sometimes when you get done with a fight and you walk into the back, sometimes you have moments like, ‘What the **** did I just do? What’re we doing? This is crazy, right?’ After that fight, I had a different type of feeling to it and part of me wants to post the post-fight interview that I did for that fight where I kind of told them I wanted to take a few years off, and honestly, I probably should have retired right then and there.
