Robert Whittaker had nothing but praise for his next opponent Dricus Du Plessis. There is a lot of respect Whittaker has for him, since he is the one who chose the hard way to get to the top of the mountain. Despite the fact that Israel Adesanya wanted to fight Dricus, he will have to wait for a while before he is able to do so.
“(I) definitely (respect that),” Whittaker told Submission Radio,as quoted by mmajunkieusatoday.com “And that’s one of the reasons why I have to respect the threat that he brings, because he’s looking for hard fights.
He doesn’t want the easy road, and you’ve got to respect that”.
Robert Whittaker and bookies
Judging by the bookies, Du Plessis will be a total outsider in the match against Whittaker. However, Robert does not want to be fooled by this and considers Du Plessis to be a difficult challenge.
He is aware that bookmakers can often make mistakes and look at things from another point of view. “I think because he’s not super flashy, because he doesn’t do crazy things and doesn’t really do things that stand out amazingly, people overlook him,” Whittaker said.
“They underestimate his capabilities. But he won’t find that in me. I understand the threat he brings to the fight, and I’m treating it with all due respect”. Whittaker wants to score a TKO, since he hasn't done that in four years.
His ambitions are to do it right in this match. We will see how good Whittaker will really be in this match, and whether he can "destroy" his opponent early. “It’s going to be a dog fight, but I’m looking to put him away,” Whittaker said.
“I want to put him away. Not that I haven’t tried with everybody else, but I want to get a finish”.
