Former UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker is on a quest to reclaim his title and settle the score with current champion Israel Adesanya. Whittaker, who suffered two defeats against Adesanya, one by knockout and one by decision, is eager for another chance to face the champion, particularly after Adesanya's recent win over Marvin Vettori.
The Path to Rematch
In a recent interview with Submission Radio, Whittaker spoke about his current position in the middleweight division and his aspirations for a rematch against Adesanya. "I'm in a tricky position," he said. "I know the path that UFC had was for Pereira to win, me to fight Pereira, beat Pereira, and then for Izzy to fight me.
That's the rematch they wanted. That's how they wanted it to happen. I'm pretty sure. But now that Izzy has won, where does that leave me?" Despite the uncertainty surrounding his next opponent, Whittaker remains steadfast in his pursuit of the middleweight title and a chance to avenge his losses against Adesanya.
"I'm hunting for it. I'm never gonna stop hunting for him, and that's just the truth of it. I will never stop. I will never stop coming for him. And if I have to run through people and just end people's careers to get that third shot at him, then I will," he said.
The Drive to Overcome
Whittaker recognizes the challenge of facing Adesanya, but he's confident in his abilities and driven by the opportunity to reclaim the title. "I do have a lot of respect for his skillset, but I know it's a puzzle I can work out and it excites me.
The challenge of trying to beat him, of getting back the belt from him, it's a driving force for me. I enjoy that and I'm never gonna stop hunting him. Ever. That's just what I want to do until I get that W back from him. That's what I want," he said.
While the situation in the middleweight division remains uncertain, Robert Whittaker is determined to continue his pursuit of redemption and reclaim his title. Whether he'll get his shot at Adesanya remains to be seen, but one thing is for sure - Whittaker will stop at nothing to reach his goal.
