A new chapter unfolds for the Indiana State Cross Country/Track and Field team, as Director Angela Martin revealed the latest addition to their coaching family: Julian Harvey. Renowned for his expertise, Harvey is poised to lead the sprints group into a promising future.
Martin expressed her genuine excitement, noting, "From the outset, Harvey exuded a familial aura. His remarkable athletic prowess, coupled with his evolving success in coaching, assures us that our sprinters are in capable hands."
Julian Harvey's Wagner Triumphs
Harvey's migration to Terre Haute comes after a fruitful stint at Wagner University from 2021 to 2023.
As an assistant coach for the Seahawks, he contributed to the team's achievements in sprints, jumps, hurdles, and relay categories. His tenure witnessed Wagner's consecutive victories at the NEC Men's Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
The female athletes also made a splash, securing the best-ever finish in the Women’s Indoor Track at the 2023 NEC Indoor Championships. Grateful for this new chapter, Harvey remarked, "The vibrant legacy of success here at ISU beckons, and I'm enthusiastic to contribute.
My heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated team for entrusting me." Under Harvey's guidance at Wagner, the team accomplished 14 school records. Furthermore, one standout, Jason Marchese, advanced to the 2023 NCAA East First Round's quarterfinals in the 400m hurdles.
Numerous records, from indoor men’s 500m to outdoor men's long jump, bear testimony to Harvey's exceptional coaching. Beyond coaching, Harvey adeptly handled operational aspects at Wagner, optimizing budgets and scholarship distribution.
His innovative social media strategies also amplified Wagner's visibility, propelling their recruitment drive. Harvey's illustrious career began as a volunteer assistant at Wisconsin, coordinating campus tours and assisting recruits.
His own accolades as an athlete are impressive, with distinctions at SIUE including Second Team All-American in 2018 and numerous championship wins. His 2017 long jump remains iconic, ranked No. 1 globally at the time.
