Holger Rune was born in Gentofte, Denmark on April 29, 2003. During his career he won three singles titles, including the prestigious Paris Masters 2022. In Grand Slam events he played in the quarterfinals at the Open of France 2022 and the fourth round at the Australian Open 2023, while his best ranking is the 9th position, reached on January 30, 2023. With his success at the Paris Masters, he became the first player to defeat five players ranked in the world's top ten in the same tournament. Born in Charlottenlund, Denmark, he is the second son of Anders and Aneke. He started playing tennis at the age of six, giving up playing soccer, imitating his sister Alma. Since his early years, his coach has been Lars Christensen.
Rune started playing tennis at the age of 6 because her sister played and started taking the sport seriously. During his childhood, he was coached by Lars Christensen who still remains the head coach to him and along with his mother is considered to be his biggest inspiration. His idols growing up were Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer.
