Founded on 21 August 1900, Brighton took its first steps in professional football in the Southern Football League, where it played continuously until joining the Football League in 1920; won a Charity Shield in 1910, defeating Aston Villa 1-0.

With the outbreak of the First World War, many footballers enlisted in the British Army to serve on the Western Front, as the team's activity was suspended for four years. Then, in 2021-2022, they finished ninth, the best placing ever in the Premier League. The following year, thanks to the work of the Italian coach Roberto De Zerbi, Brighton managed to finish sixth in the league and therefore qualify for the 2023-2024 edition of the Europa League.
