Roman Reigns is a wrestler and former football player signed to WWE, where he performs on the SmackDown roster and is the current holder of the WWE Championship and the Universal Championship. After playing college football in Atlanta from 2003 to 2007, Roman began his pro career with brief off-season stints with the NFL's Minnesota Vikings and Jacksonville Jaguars. He then played one full season for Canada's Edmonton Eskimos during 2008, but officially retired at the end of the season. Reigns then pursued a career in wrestling and was signed by WWE in 2010, initially training in Florida Championship Wrestling's developmental territory. Starting in 2012 he was placed on the main roster as a member of the stable The Shield alongside Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins. After the disbandment of the group in 2014, he began his career in singles, immediately wrestling in important matches. In total, he captured the WWE Championship four times, the Universal Championship twice (whose second reign of 996 days is the longest in 30 years, as well as in the title's history) and the Intercontinental Championship once each, the United States Championship and the WWE Tag Team Championship (with Seth Rollins), thus making him the seventeenth wrestler in history to have completed the Grand Slam. He also won the 2015 Royal Rumble, putting six eliminations on the scoresheet.
Reigns is half Samoan and half Italian, on his mother's side. He is part of the Anoa'i family, an American wrestling dynasty of Samoan origins: he is in fact the son of Sika Anoa'i and younger brother of Matt Anoa'i, known by the ring name of Rosey, who died in 2017. He is a distant cousin of The Rock, by Nia Jax, Tamina and is also related to Rikishi, Umaga, the Usos, Solo Sikoa and Yokozuna. He studied management at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta (Georgia) from 2003 to 2007. In December 2014 he married Galina Joelle Becker, with whom he has a daughter and twins. On the October 22, 2018 episode of Raw, he revealed that he was suffering from leukemia, a disease he had already fought against until 2007. On February 25, 2019, he announced the remission of the disease and his next return to the ring four months after his last appearance.
