Futbol Club Barcelona is a Spanish multi-sports club based in the city of Barcelona, known above all for its soccer section. It was founded in Barcelona in 1899 by a group of Swiss and British footballers led by Hans Gamper.
The football team has played in the Primera División, the top division of the Spanish football championship, since the first edition of the tournament (1928-1929 season) and has won 27 championships, 31 Spanish Cups, 2 La Liga Cups, 14 Spanish Super Cups and 4 Copa de Oro Argentina/Eva Duarte for a total of 77 official trophies. At an international level it can boast 5 UEFA Champions Leagues, 4 Cup Winners' Cups, 5 UEFA Super Cups and 3 Club World Cups.
It is among the eight teams in Europe that have managed to achieve the treble, i.e. victory in the league, the national cup and the Champions League in the same season, and the first to have repeated the feat (2009 and 2015). Furthermore, in 2009, by also winning the Spanish Super Cup, the UEFA Super Cup and the Club World Cup, it became the first club in the history of football to have won six titles in a season (matched by Bayern Munich in 2021), triumphing in each of the six official competitions played during the calendar year.
The sports club is also active in basketball, five-a-side football, handball, roller hockey, inline skate hockey, American football and rugby. It also has a women's team and a reserve team.
