The Monte Carlo Rolex Masters 2022 has just begun, but the protagonists are immediately projected towards the decisive matches of the scoreboard. With the draw for the main draw, what could be potential quarter-finals also came out.

Among the four matches scheduled, there is one that has no precedent, but that is a candidate to be the long-awaited match: the one between Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz. In the episode of ATP Tennis Radio Podcast, the young Spaniard spoke about the match against the world number one.

He said: "Well, I don't want to be in a hurry, you know. I just focus on the first round. Yes, I look for the first round first, but of course it could be a great match against Novak. Playing against the number 1 in the world is great for me.

I hope to play well in the first round. I hope to meet him in the quarter-finals." If Alcaraz was one of the protagonists of this start of the season, together with his countryman Rafa Nadal, for Novak Djokovic it is almost a debut: after his participation in Dubai, that of Monte Carlo is the first tournament on European clay-courts.

In the opening match Djokovic will have Davidovich Fokina, who won the first round against Giron. In Alcaraz’s first round match, however, there is the winner between Korda and Van De Zandschulp. Beyond the first game, the Spaniard is ready to play on Monegasque clay-courts: "Playing here is so cool.

Before the first [training] session I took a picture for the view, the sea, and yes, it's pretty cool." In the interview released on the ATP tour, reported by Sportskeeda, Alcaraz also talked about the victory of the last Masters 1000, the one in Miami: "It was really special, I mean, I had time to celebrate with my friends, with the family at home for a couple of days.

But now it's time to focus on clay, on the first 1000 Masters on clay in Monte-Carlo."
