Emma Raducanu's season didn't start as the player hoped. Since the beginning of 2022, the British tennis player has only won two games: against Stephens in the opening match of the Australian Open and in the first match of Indian Wells against France’s Garcia.
A difficult moment that starts right from the victory of the US Open last year: after the conquest of the Slam title, there were four victories obtained by Raducanu. For this drop suffered by the number thirteen in the world, there have been numerous criticisms leveled against the player.
Among the most severe, there was the comment of Daniela Hantuchova. The player, former world number five, made not entirely flattering comments on Emma Raducanu's performances in recent months. With the British defeat against Katerina Siniakova in the second round of the Miami Open, the former champion made some statements, taken from Eurosport: "I think this defeat can hurt her a lot, especially for the number of chances she had during the match, where it was the best pretty much most of the time.
The thing is, now all the girls want to beat Emma, so they're all trying to figure out how to play against her. All the respect she earned in the locker room after winning the US Open is now disappearing, she is losing it, which is a shame," said the former Slovakian tennis player.
"It will be important for Emma to consider the things she needs to change. At this age, what you want is to be fit, to show everyone that you are ready to win tournaments like this. I think Emma has the level, she just has to find a way to get it out," said Hantuchova about Raducanu.
Although not involved in the discussion, Nick Kyrgios still decided to express his opinion, defending Emma Raducanu. Without mentioning Daniela Hantuchova in his tweet, Kyrgios commented on the words of the former Slovakian tennis player: "I read an article about the words of a former player who spoke of Raducanu, no offense but she is down a much much bigger name."
What’s with old retired players giving their opinion on our stars now? I love A-rod and I agree we all need to chill with the rackets and all that, but geezus, I read an article about a past female player talking about radacanu, no offence but she is a far far bigger name already — Nicholas Kyrgios (@NickKyrgios) March 27, 2022
