Wimbledon 2021: Roger Federer eliminated, Djokovic in semis!

Roger Federer's tale at Wimbledon may have come to an end. The very Swiss champion, in his one hundred and seventeenth appearance in his career, returns to lose in straight sets for the first time since 2002 and for the first time in his career suffers a 6-0 on the home lawn of the Centre Court.

The 6-3 7-6 (5) 6-0 that matures on the threshold of two hours of play does not actually leave room for too many interpretations. Hubert Hurkacz - former champion in Miami this year - brings the Polish flag back to the semifinals nine years after Jerzy Janowicz and crowns the dream of a lifetime.

Among other things, he waits for one Matteo Berrettini in the semifinal of Wimbledon 2021. Now we have to understand if Roger Federer would play again or it was his last Wimbledon. Novak Djokovic, number one of the Wimbledon 2021 seeding in the hunt for the twentieth career Slam success and the sixth success at the Championships, reaches at least the table of the top four on the lawns of Church Road for the tenth time in his career, after the wins in straights sets against Marton Fucsovics.

Just to be clear, if it were necessary to remember it, only Jimmy Connors and Roger Federer did better. With an excellent 6-3 6-4 6-4 that Nole builds in just under two hours of play, the Serbian champion also catches a hundredth career victory on grass-courts and waits from a rather privileged position of Denis Shapovalov, who defeated Karen Khachanov.

Thanks to the tenth victory in a row obtained on grass-courts, Matteo Berrettini became the second Italian in history to reach the semifinals on the lawns of the All England Club: before him only Nicola Pietrangeli had succeeded in 1960.

Berrettini once again showed his solidity in the serve and his great mental strength, and beat Felix Auger-Aliassime with the score of 6-3, 5-7, 7-5, 6-3. Semifinal against Hubert Hurkacz, who defeated Roger Federer for 6-3 7-6 (5) 6-0.

Denis Shapovalov defeated Karen Khachanov with the final result of 6-4 3-6 5-7 6-1 6-4, qualifying for the semifinals of Wimbledon 2021, where he will now face world no.1 Novak Djokovic. Shapovalov achieved the most prestigious result of his career after an exceptional match for quality and emotions, and after being down until the third set. Below the match-point.
