Nick Kyrgios: Felix Auger-Aliassime is a hell of a player

Former world No. 13 Nick Kyrgios was hampered by an abdominal injury during his Wimbledon third round clash versus Felix Auger-Aliassime. Kyrgios won the first set 6-2 -- lost the second set 6-1 -- before retiring the match.

"I haven’t played this level of tennis in a long time,2 said Kyrgios on court. "And obviously playing someone as good as Felix, I need my main weapon – my serve – to be firing on all cylinders and I just felt my ab.

"Definitely did something to it towards the end of the first set. That’s just the way it goes "He’s a hell of a player, he’s going to do some special things in this sport. "Playing out here and having this kind of support, has made me have a second wind.

I reckon I’m gonna come back and play for a bit longer I reckon. "I did all I could to prepare to get here,’ he added.’ ‘I beat a heck of a player first round and I played a great second round.

"Just to get out here again and play two sets, I tried to play as long as I could and I’m sorry that I couldn’t give you more today but you’ll see a lot of him in the future. And he’s better looking too, so it’s all good."

Auger-Aliassime felt sorry for Kyrgios

“I’m sorry for Nick, he was playing so well in the first set,” Auger-Aliassime said in an on-court interview. "It’s really unfortunate, in front of a packed crowd.

We both love playing here and there were some big expectations for this match. We were hoping to put on a good show and entertain the crowd, so it’s unfortunate that he had to retire. I hope it’s nothing too serious and that we’ll see him back during the US swing”.

Meanwhile, Hubert Hurkacz beat Alexander Bublik in straight sets 6-3 6-4 6-2 to reach his first Wimbledon round-of-16. ‘I felt really good today. Bublik has such a big serve and comes forward, playing drop shots, so it is very tricky to play him,” Hurkacz said.

“I think I was serving well, and I tried to stay aggressive, so he would have to be more defensive. This was crucial as I did not want him to dictate the game. “I had a few tough weeks after Miami, I was probably a little bit tired afterwards.

My game was good [throughout], I just needed one match [win] to feel more confident, and I feel I am now playing really well again”.
