Italian Open 2021: Djokovic vs Nadal and Swiatek vs Pliskova the finals

In the semifinals of the Italian Open 2021, in Rome, Rafael Nadal has also overcome the obstacle of the giant Reilly Opelka, to then go on to his 52nd career ATP Masters 1000 final, the twelfth at the Foro Italico, where he will go in search of the tenth success and where he will find his long-time rival, Novak Djokovic, who will share the sixth Roman final with him.

Called to the most difficult exam of his week of grace, Opelka loses, as indeed was foreseeable. After all, Reilly had one in front of the five hundredth game on red in his career with 457 victories (458 with this one), which means a% that exceeds 91%.

In short, it was impossible. Frankly, you couldn't ask for more than double 6-4 in one hour and 32 minutes of play from Opelka. Winning two games like the ones that Novak Djokovic won in the semifinals of Rome 2021, must be an extraordinary experience in just a few hours, even if the CV shows the number 18 under the title of Grand Slam titles.

Lorenzo Sonego threw his heart over the obstacle, fought until the last 15, canceled two match points in the second set, but this was not enough to scratch the defenses of an immense champion. In the first set, Djokovic immediately made things clear and forced Sonego to give up his serve in the fourth game.

A break that the Serbian made enough for until the turn of service that allowed him to win the first portion of the game with a score of 6-3.

The women's singles semifinals

Iga Swiatek reached the final of the Italian Open 2021, in Rome, thanks to the victory in straight sets against the young American Cori Gauff, obtained with the final score of 7-6 (3) 6-3.

We have to recall that, according WTA, Swiatek against Gauff was the youngest WTA semifinal at this level event, Slams excluded, since the tournament level was introduced. The previous youngest combined age was that between Anasta Pavlyuchenkova vand Ana Ivanovic, in 2009 at Indian Wells.

After a balanced first set, the young Polish champion at the French Open 2020, has practically no chances to her young American rival, in the second set, also showing a solid and varied tennis. Thanks to this victory, the teenager got her 4th WTA final, her 2nd in 2021, after her victory at the Adelaide International against Bwelinda Bencic, last January. In the Rome final she will meet Karolina Pliskova, at her di lei 3rd final ina row on the Italian Open clay-courts.
