In addition to the great quality, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic have been recognized for their great longevity, ability to improve over time and to break new records. Getting to 1000 victories on the ATP Tour is far from easy, but two of the Big Three have already succeeded and Novak Djokovic is a serious candidate to be next.
Federer has won 1242 matches while Nadal who completed the 1000-match milestone in 2020 has won 1004 matches. Djokovic currently has 934 wins on the tour. Without the problems caused by the pandemic, the Serbian champion would probably be even closer to this figure, but if no further tournaments are canceled this year, it seems likely that 2021 will be the year of Novak Djokovic's 1000 successes in the ATP Tour.
Looking at the ranking of ATP wins this season, barring unforeseen events caused by injuries, it could help Roger Federer retain his place as the tennis player with the most victories in tennis history. At the same time, Rafael Nadal is still a long way from the top two (and who knows if he will ever catch them) but he has the chance this year to overtake Ivan Lendl in the standings.
To reach 1000 victories Novak Djokovic would have to win 66 matches in 2021, a record he has not reached since 2015.
Novak Djokovic: 1000 career wins in 2021?
However, excluding the 2017 seasons that saw him injured and that of 2020 conditioned by COVID-19, the number one in the world has always been close to these figures and it is therefore not impossible to achieve this result.
Here is the number of victories that Novak Djokovic has achieved each year and in this way, we will be able to understand the difficulty of this incredible feat: 2006 - 40
2007 - 68
2008 - 64
2009 - 78
2010 - 61
