Australian Open 2021 at risks for a hotel problem?

The greatest tennis stars on the planet, like Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray, Serena Williams, Naomi Osaka, Ashleigh Barty, Simona Halep and all the others, will come back for the upcoming Australian Open 2021, which will be held in Melbourne from 8 February: it will be the most awaited sports event of the first part of the new season.

It will be a very spectacular season, and all of us hope without the problems of the last one, with some presence of the crowd in the courts across the world. When everything seemed to have been planned in great detail at the Australian Open 2021, a new problem could now jeopardize the hard work of the organizers and all the staff.

The Westin Melbourne, the hotel that will host tennis players and their teams, also has a special area within it dedicated to 36 apartments for ordinary citizens. The owners of the houses, however, were unable to express their opinion and their preference for the choice made by the hotel management.

Considering that these people live in the same structure that will host players, coaches and members of the different staff, and the accusations made against the hotel management, it is easy to understand that the situation could have negative repercussions on the tournament.

New problem for the organizers of the Australian Open 2021?

According to local media, in fact, the owners of the houses are even thinking of taking legal action. In The Age newspaper, Stephen Ferrigno, the director of the Westin, clarified his position and explained that none of the people present in the 36 houses will have to make contact with the new guests.

He said: "Under the arrangements put in place, Westin Melbourne residents will have no contact with either quarantined guests or the staff assigned to look after them. They will use reserved entrances and elevators, the floor on which the apartments are located will be for their exclusive use and the ventilation system will also be separate from that used for all the other rooms in the hotel."

Tennis Australia, with the help of government authorities, has established a very strict protocol to allow players to compete in the Australian Open 2021 and ensure maximum safety for all those involved in the event. One of the most important points of the protocol concerns the quarantine that the athletes will have to strictly comply with.

All tennis players and all tennis players must reach Australia by January 15th and, in addition to the numerous swabs they will have to undergo to ascertain their negativity to the Coronavirus, they will respect a period of isolation, as required by the regulation.
